Overview
Applying a rectification extension to provide additional time to rectify a defect can be performed through the Web Dashboard to all deferred defects. This functionality is available to anyone with the Edit Defects permission for the given aircraft.
Adding a Rectification Extension
Rectification extensions can be applied to any deferred defect within the Web Dashboard, except for those already deferred against an NEF (Non Essential Furnishings) List, or those deferred as Category A (e.g. MEL, CDL, CAS Message). It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that this functionality is used in accordance with all regulations and operational procedures.
- After choosing an aircraft, select Defects from the left-hand menu
- a) Either click on a defect row, or b) use the three-dot menu to select Edit
If you clicked on the defect row (2a), at this point you will need to use the three-dot menu to enter Edit mode:
Providing that a deferral option has been selected for the defect, and the defect has not been deferred against the NEF or with a deferral category of A, the option to add a Deferral Extension will show towards the bottom of the Edit Defect screen. Select Yes to add an extension:
You will now be able to choose the date the extension applies from, and the date it expires:
If you wish to apply an indefinite extension, i.e. the defect should never expire, moving your mouse to the right side of the New Due Date field will present a button that can be used to clear the entered date:
A warning will appear informing you that saving the defect at this point will mean that the deferral will never expire:
Once you have chosen the new due date, or cleared it, you are required to provide a signature and then select Complete to save the extension.
The defect will now remain deferred until the end of the date selected as the New Due Date. On the following day, the defect will enter the Overdue status and render the aircraft unserviceable. If no New Due Date was selected, the defect will never enter the Overdue status.
If the deferral is subsequently removed, or edited to an NEF item or to a Category A limit, the rectification extension will automatically be removed.
Editing or Removing a Rectification Extension
After entering the Edit Defect screen (using the instructions from the previous section), you can edit the Rectification Extension details. A new signature will be required to save your changes.
If you wish to remove the Rectification Extension, please change the “Apply an extension to this defect?” answer from Yes to No:
And then sign and select Complete. The applied Rectification Extension will be removed and the defect’s original due date will come back into effect. Note that this may cause the defect to immediately enter the Overdue status.
Viewing a Rectification Extension
- After choosing an aircraft, select Defects from the left-hand menu
- a) Either click on a defect row, or b) use the three-dot menu to select View
A defect without a rectification extension will show:
If the defect has a rectification extension, this will be shown here:
A defect with an indefinite extension, will have a blank value for New Due Date, and additionally show a warning that it will not expire, visible at the top of the view screen:
Rectification Extensions and Export Templates
Defect details are included on the SRP (Sector Records Page) and DDL (Deferred Defect List) export templates.
SRP
Note: This is the default behaviour for all SRP templates first configured on the system prior to May 2022. SRP templates configured after this date can vary on whether, and how, extensions are represented. It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that they are aware of how extensions are represented on their template.
Exported SRPs that contain defect action fields will include a statement indicating that the extension has been applied automatically:
DDL
Defects with rectification extensions applied will appear on the DDL template in the same way as those without, with the exception that any references to the expiration date will list the extended date instead of the original due date:
Note that there is no explicit indication that an extension has been applied. Should this be required, the customer must implement an operational procedure to edit the defect’s description to include a statement that the extension has been applied. This is achieved using the following instructions:
- After choosing an aircraft, select Defects from the left-hand menu
- a) Either click on a defect row, or b) use the three-dot menu to select Edit
If you clicked on the defect row (2a), at this point you will need to use the three-dot menu to enter Edit mode:
From here, a suitable description can be appended to the Notes field. Additionally, attachments, such as approval correspondence, can be added:
Upon completion, the defect changes must be signed for and Complete selected:
The additional text will appear whenever the defect details are displayed, including on the DDL export:
